Be Still & Know... Even When Life Isn’t!

Hey friend,

Ever feel like life is loud? The deadlines, the drama, the doubt... it can all feel like a non-stop playlist on full blast. But here’s the wild truth that often gets drowned out in the chaos:

“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

Simple, right? But also... not so simple.

Being still isn’t just sitting in silence with your coffee (although that’s a great start ). It’s a spiritual stance. It’s a holy confidence. It’s the kind of stillness that whispers “God’s got this,” even when everything around you is screaming otherwise.

Let’s be honest—when life feels like it’s falling apart, “being still” can feel like a luxury... or even a little ridiculous.

When the bills are piling up, the doctor hasn’t called you back, your kids are arguing (again), and you’re questioning if the breakthrough will ever come—stillness isn’t what we feel like doing. We feel like fixing, figuring it out, or flat-out fleeing the situation. But the truth is, stillness isn’t passive. It’s powerful.

Psychological research backs this up. According to Dr. Herbert Benson from Harvard Medical School, engaging in moments of intentional stillness—what he calls the relaxation response—can actually counteract the body’s stress reaction. It lowers blood pressure, eases anxiety, and resets the nervous system. In other words, your body was created to benefit from stillness.

Yet, stillness isn’t just physical—it’s deeply spiritual.

When God says in Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God,” He’s not asking you to ignore your situation—He’s inviting you to surrender it. To remember that He is God... and we are not.

I’ve had moments where the storm around me felt louder than the voice within. Times when doubt didn’t just knock—it moved in and started decorating. But in those moments, I found comfort in Exodus 14:14:

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Stillness isn’t about doing nothing—it’s about doing the one thing that matters most: trusting that God is already working it out, even when we can’t see the evidence yet.

And friend, let me say this gently—sometimes your next breakthrough won’t come from your hustle... but from your hush.

3 Ways to “Be Still and Know” Daily

Here’s how you can activate stillness even when your schedule is doing the most:

1. Start Your Morning with 5 Minutes of Silence

Before you scroll or sip—just sit. Invite God into your day with quiet. Ask Him to fill the stillness with His voice.

2. Repeat Truth Out Loud

Declare Psalm 46:10 or Exodus 14:14 out loud—especially when doubt creeps in. Your words shape your world.

3. Schedule “Stillness Check-Ins”

Set a timer on your phone for 3 moments during the day to pause, breathe, and remind yourself: “God is in control, not me.”
