Ok, Mel, I Get it!

Have you ever encountered an idea so profound it completely transformed the way you approach life? The kind of insight that’s so impactful, that you can’t wait to share it with everyone you know, hoping they’ll be just as inspired and blessed by it as you were.

That’s exactly what happened to me over the weekend. I listened to Mel Robbins' podcast, and her words were nothing short of life-changing. Now, I’m here to share that experience with you!

She tackled the concept of "false confidence" — that momentary surge of bravado masking procrastination, fear, or avoidance. Her words were a wake-up call:

Instead of tackling what matters most, we distract ourselves with busy work or easy wins, avoiding the hard thing that truly needs our attention. And here’s the truth: how you start your day shapes everything else.

Mel challenged me to rethink my mornings, and I want to challenge you too. Imagine what could happen if you started each day by doing the hard thing first — the thing that moves the needle, stretches your faith, and builds your confidence authentically.

Here’s how I’ve implemented this principle and how you can too:

  1. Name Your Hard Thing. What’s the one task you’ve been avoiding? Write it down the night before. Mine was getting my butt out of bed when the alarm goes off and NOT HITTING SNOOZE! I’m grateful that I conquered that task today!

  2. Start Small. Dedicate 10 minutes to that hard thing as soon as you wake up. You’ll be amazed at how small actions build momentum.

  3. Silence the False Confidence. Replace morning distractions with purposeful action. Avoid diving into emails or social media right away. This morning I not only arose the moment the alarm went off, I literally heard Mel’s voice reminding me to go get fresh air so I walked downstairs and to my patio. I felt the cool 40-degree wind and awoke immediately! LOL.

  4. Celebrate Progress. Confidence grows when you keep promises to yourself, so celebrate every step forward, no matter how small. I would’ve liked to celebrate with Starbucks but instead, I showed my body some love with lemon water and had a dance party while dropping my son to school.

You see, the hard thing isn’t just a task. It’s a gateway to growth, clarity, and true confidence. When you take it on first thing in the morning, you’re setting the tone for a day rooted in purpose and action.

Let’s commit to mornings that build us up, not tear us down. Take this as your sign to wake up tomorrow and do the hard thing first. You’ll be amazed at the difference one intentional morning can make. Start now, because lasting change starts today.

Now it’s your turn!

Ready to transform your mornings? Reply and share what hard thing you’ll tackle first tomorrow morning. Let’s hold each other accountable!
